Where to go
Server files → <world name> → playerdata
Generic / Any host note: The default world is normally named world. If level-name has been changed in server.properties, open that world folder instead.
Java Edition: This guide covers the vanilla Java player data stored inside your active world folder. Plugins and mods can store additional player information elsewhere.

1. Identify the active world

Open server.properties and check level-name. On a standard server this is usually world.

2. Open the server files

Use your host file manager, SFTP/FTP client, or direct server filesystem access and open the active world folder.

<server root>/<world name>/

3. Open the playerdata folder

Inside the world folder, open playerdata.

world/playerdata/

You will see files named after Minecraft UUIDs, for example 18abd99d-e8c8-4bde-a74c-5ff91d36902d.dat. The matching .dat file is the player’s main vanilla world data file.

What is stored there?

The player data file commonly contains inventory, armour/equipment, ender chest contents, health, hunger, experience, position, dimension and other vanilla player state.

Related UUID files

For a more complete vanilla migration, also check world/stats/ and world/advancements/. These normally contain UUID-named JSON files.

Before changing anything: stop the server and make a backup. Editing, deleting or renaming live player data can cause data loss or be overwritten by the running server.
